Supporting Communities
Through Data-Driven
Research
Currently, SRI is funded by over $26 million in external funding from competitive grants and contracts at the local, state, and federal level, and partners or collaborates with over 40 universities and agencies across 15 states.

The Social Research Institute (SRI) is a multidisciplinary applied research, evaluation, training, and implementation institute within the University of Utah College of Social Work. SRI partners with public agencies, community-based organizations, universities, and human service systems to strengthen programs, improve practice, and support more effective services for children, adults, families, and communities.
Across its portfolio of grants and contracts, SRI brings together expertise in program and outcome evaluation, implementation support, data analysis, statistics, data science, clinical and social service practice, curriculum development, workforce training, dashboard development, and virtual simulation. This breadth allows SRI to tailor its work to the needs of each partner, from evaluating program effectiveness and analyzing data to developing training, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and translating findings into practical tools for decision-making.
Much of SRI’s work functions as a collaborative consultancy with long-standing state, local, and national partners. SRI emphasizes actionable findings, usable products, and continuous improvement strategies that help agencies understand what is working, identify where improvements are needed, and use evidence to strengthen policies, services, and outcomes for the communities they serve.
