Prerequisite Course Suggestions at In‐State Institutions
The following list includes courses offered at Utah colleges and universities that fulfill the MSW prerequisite requirements. Courses not on this list may also be considered, including those taken at out‐of‐state institutions. Complete this form to submit a transcript and request a prerequisite review, or email MSW@utah.edu to inquire about other courses. Please provide the course name, course description for the catalog year of when the course was completed, and the syllabus, if possible.

Research Methods
This course can be taken within any discipline so long as it addresses the following content:
- Research Ethics
- Quantitative Research Designs
- Quantitative Methods
Course titles should include at least one of the following key words: research/evaluation and methods/design:
- Student research will not be accepted in lieu of a completed research methods course earned for a letter grade.
- Many of these courses have their own prerequisites, which are noted in the institution’s catalog.
- This list is not exhaustive. There may be several courses that fulfill the above requirements that are not listed. See the top of this document for instructions on inquiring about courses not listed.
One course is required unless otherwise noted.
The courses must be taken for credit receiving a letter grade and can be taken online, in‐person, or hybrid.
