Overview
From a Moment to a Movement explores what it takes to transform a vision born of grief and calling into a lasting legacy of research, policy, and practice for Black survivors of homicide victims. Grounded in purpose, this keynote reflects on responding to the work through rigorous research, knowledge mobilization, and community-centered dissemination. The lecture concludes with a call to action for scholars and practitioners to stay rooted as they rise, training the next generation to conduct and share their research in ways that meaningfully impact communities in this critical moment and beyond.

About Presenter
Tanya L. Sharpe, MSW, PhD, is an internationally recognized leader in homicide research and a Professor and Endowed Chair in Social Work in the Global Community at the University of Toronto. She is the Founder and Director of the Centre for Research & Innovation for Black Survivors of Homicide Victims (The CRIB), advancing culturally responsive approaches to post-homicide research, policy, and practice.
Dr. Sharpe’s work centers the lived experiences of survivors, examining the long-term social, mental health, and structural impacts of homicide on individuals, families, and communities—particularly African, Caribbean, and Black populations across national contexts. A sought-after global advisor and keynote speaker, she works with practitioners, organizations, and policymakers to strengthen survivor-centered responses to homicide survivorship, structural violence, gun violence, and racialized trauma.
