About the Artists

Artist Rod MacIver painted the cover image, Surya Namaskara. Initially, his watercolors appeared only in the publication Heron Dance, but, responding to requests from subscribers, he began offering the original watercolors for sale in 1997. A number of wilderness protection groups and other non-profits have made use of the art in the Heron Dance newsletters, on their website (www.herondance.org) and in their outreach efforts.

Artist Alex Moya generously donated his Sunflowers to the College of Social Work for use in this Summer Institute catalog. Mr. Moya grew up in Juarez, Mexico where his love of art was sparked by the human condition and Atavistic Vestiges After Rain, by Salvador Dali, and nurtured by his art teacher, Sofia and his parents, Linda and Lorenzo. Alex is currently studying sculpture and creative writing at the University of Utah. Though he enjoys painting, particularly in oils, he loves to involve his whole self in sculpture and poetry.
