Financial Aid Procedures

The College of Social Work and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships are the two primary sources for financial aid at the University of Utah.

The CSW Application for Scholarship should be completed and
submitted annually by March 15

College funds are based on merit and/or need and include, but are not limited to, scholarship funds and awards for our students available from various granting agencies and private donations on a yearly basis. Please mail or delivered the form to:

  University of Utah
College of Social Work
Scholarship Committee
395 South 1500 East
Salt Lake City UT 84112-0260

The College will give support as/when funds are available. Financial assistance is limited so students are urged to explore all other resources to finance their education. Although financial aid is not available to international students in the form of government loans or stipends and we do not maintain a special international student fund, international students are considered for CSW scholarships. The CSW Dean officially notifies all financial aid applicants and recipients of financial awards no later than July 15.

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships requires separate financial aid forms for student loans and other assistance through the University of Utah. They are located in 105 Student Services Building, Salt Lake City, Utah 84112, Telephone 801-581-6211. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is required to determine need and to apply for financial aid in the form of loans or work-study. The FAFSA must also be submitted by March 15 before ANY need-based funds will be awarded, including CSW scholarship funds. The FAFSA can be completed on-line at www.ed.gov/studentaid. It is recommended that students have their annual federal taxes completed before completing the FAFSA as tax information is required for the form. It is further advised that you complete the FAFSA and forward as instructed by the priority deadline set forth on the forms regardless of whether you have been accepted or not. As loan monies from the University of Utah are granted on a first-come basis, it is in your best interest to submit all financial aid information early.

Please be aware that receipt of any scholarships or stipends through the College of Social Work may affect loans or grants obtained through the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. You may contact Tami Garff at 801-581-4962 or tgarff@socwk.utah.edu for additional information regarding financial aid for the College. Note that financial aid information does not become part of the student academic files.
