PACE - Social work practice methods course

Are you applying for licensure as a Social Service Worker in the state of Utah and do not have a bachelor degree in social work or a related field and you need a Social Work Practice Methods course to fulfill additional educational requirements as stated below?

The Social Work Practice Methods online course introduces students from various disciplines to knowledge, values, and skills for generalist social work practice. Special emphasis is placed on social work at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels. This course focuses on the planned change process and social work roles at various levels. It also includes content on values, ethics, resolution of ethical dilemmas, and practice and program evaluation.

At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to:

      A. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the evolution of social work
      B. Identify and describe primary roles employed in generalist social work practice including advocate, broker, case manager, facilitator, mediator, organizer, and educator
      C. Demonstrate skill in using the planned change process at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels
      D. Recognize and apply key values inherent in the NASW Code of Ethics
      E. Identify culturally competent and gender sensitive practice skills with diverse populations
      F. Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels
      G. Identify ethical dilemmas in social work and how they can be addressed
      H. Identify advocacy skills necessary for policy change to achieve social and economic justice
      I. Describe key principles, issues, and processes of group dynamics important to social work practice
      J. Identify appropriate evaluation designs for direct practice and programs
      K. Demonstrate a general understanding of how to effectively work with families

Social Work Practice Methods Online course is taught in the Fall and Spring semester online through Web CT at the University of Utah through the College of Social Work.
