Teen Connect

The Neighbors Helping Neighbors program is excited to announce its partnership with Rowland-Hall St. Mark’s High School to establish a new service project called “TEEN CONNECT!” TEEN CONNECT is an intergenerational project that matches youth and elderly people in a mutually beneficial relationship in an attempt to bridge the gaps between generations.

Some of the benefits of this project to the youth volunteers include:

  • Provides an opportunity to do community service
  • Learn about the issues and consequences of aging
  • Share life experiences; gain wisdom form older person
  • Learn about history
  • Improve communication and social skills
  • Demyth stereotypes/misconceptions of each generation

Some of the benefits of this project to the seniors includes:

  • Decrease in loneliness, depression, and anxiety
  • Increase in social stimulation/connections
  • Share life experiences and wisdom
  • Teach history from first-hand experience
  • Demyth stereotypes/misconceptions of each generation

This is a great way to help build our community and make a difference in the lives of both our local youth and community-dwelling seniors!
