Russell K. Van Vleet is a professor/lecturer at the University of Utah College of Social Work and Co-Director of the Utah Criminal Justice center, University of Utah. Russ was formerly the Director of the Utah State Division of Youth Corrections, and was a prominent figure when Utah transformed its youth corrections system into what became a national model. He worked for the Annie E.Casey Foundation as part of the Center for the Study of Youth Policy which assisted states in reforming juvenile justice systems. Russ has also served as a consultant to many national organizations, is a monitor for the Unites States Department of Justice, has advised juvenile systems in 48 states and presented workshops and training as well as authored several booklets and articles pertaining to juvenile justice reform.
