Dr Luptak joined the College of Social Work at the University of Utah as an Assistant Professor in July of 2005. A native of western North Dakota, Dr Luptak earned her BSW (1984) from Minnesota State University-Moorhead, her MSW (1989) from the University of Minnesota, and her PhD in Social Work with a Minor in Gerontology (2003) from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Luptak has practiced social work in rural and urban settings, in public agencies and private non-profit agencies, and in direct practice and management positions, focusing primarily on work with older persons and their families. She provides training related to geriatric interdisciplinary teams, elder maltreatment, end-of-life care planning and other ethical issues related to practice. Outside of her academic life, Dr. Luptak loves to read and is in withdrawal after leaving two book groups behind in Minnesota. She and her partner both like to spend time outdoors, enjoy growing herbs and heirloom tomatoes, cooking and entertaining, and spending time with their family, friends, cats, and dogs.
