Mr Luptak joined the College of Social Work at the University of Utah as an Assistant Professor/Lecturer in August of 2005. Originally from western North Dakota, he graduated with a BSW in 1987 from Minnesota State University-Moorhead, and earned his MSW degree from the University of Minnesota in 1989. He worked as a social worker and then as a program director for nine years at a large residential facility in Minneapolis that provides residential, nursing, and psychosocial rehabilitation services to adults living with serious, and persistent mental illness, and physical health problems. Mr. Luptak worked as a social worker and then as a unit supervisor for six years in the Hennepin County Behavioral Health Case Management Program in Minneapolis. While there, he was part of a community based, multidisciplinary team that worked with court committed mentally ill and/or chemically dependent clients. He is currently working with BSW practicum students and is preparing to teach Social Work Practice in the BSW program Spring semester. His avocation is playing the guitar and singing.
