Nine faculty members from KNUST arrived in Utah to continue discussions about social
welfare issues among faculty at both universities under the direction of Caren Frost.
KNUST Faculty and CSW Faculty presented information at workshops in our 2008 Summer Institute.
There were presentations from the Ghanaian faculty about the need to identify data collection
possibilities about social welfare programs, differing types of leadership qualities in agencies,
as well as what are current health and social issues faced by women and pregnant teens. The Utah
faculty examined faith and social work, attachment issues faced by refugees, gender violence, and
cultural/medical issues impacting women's health. The rich examination of each of these issues
allowed faculty, students, and community partners to distinguish the differences and similarities
faced by groups in each country.
It is our hope that the proceedings presented here will encourage our two universities to work
